Well I have repotted one of the Bonsai’s, what can I say, no guide could have prepared me for the sheer mess that was created and the time it took to get those roots untangled, haha, tricky little buggers those bonsai’s. There were so many roots that it was nigh on impossible to get the soil removed by hand alone, so I resorted to a bucket of water and a sharp pokey object, namely a skewer. Even this and an extra pair of hands couldn’t speed things up, but eventually it was done, then was just a case of trimming the roots and planting in it’s new pot and giving it a litle trim on top. Simple right? well, after putting it in it’s new home, I set to work pruning it back a little. I didn’t know a damn thing so just went at it like Edward Scissorhands, finished article not quite as good but it’s not half bad for someone who’s as subtle as a brick.
Now only time will tell if I have done it right, if I wake up one day and it seems a little lacking on the leaves, well that will pretty much say it all.

Being as it’s never too late to set yourself some new tasks and goals, although I have never been one for new years resolutions I feel like I should really set some goals this year, so i’ll just call it my things to do list… I just hope this list serves to motivate me as well as being a reminder, rather, I will use this list as a reminder and will get things done.
The list, right now i’ll just list the main ones, there are bound to be other things that surface throughout the year that need to be put on this list.
- Japanese – After being on and off with learning japanese for the last few years, I stopped with the excuses and got my ass in gear, with insight from a friend who read a specific method of learning Japanese from the website alljapaneseallthetime.com. after giving it a good read over I thought I would give it a go as much of the methods he wrote about just seemed obviously simple, so at more or less the same time we began on our journey into learning japanese. Begining with the book “Remembering the Kanji, Vol. 1: A Complete Course on How Not to Forget the Meaning and Writing of Japanese Characters” which contains 2042 Kanji. Once this was completed after approximately 5 months, which would have been done quicker if i’d have stuck to my initial 25 per day instead of slacking at weekends, but thats a lesson learned. Kana was next and finished them fairly quickly and easily after the kanji. Now i’m on with sentances, more on those later.
- Weight Training – Again, this is something I get into then pack it in suddenly after about a month. Though I intend to stick it out this time, currently training 4 times a week. More in detail on this at some point soon.
- Healthier Lifestyle – Linked to the above really, but i’m pretty much all over this one already.
- Save – Enough to get to Japan for a year on a part-time working visa, to have plenty of spending money and hopefully get a job and stay there, but we’ll see what happens with that when we get there in a few years.
Well thats about it for now, i’m sure that i’ll be updating this at some point in the future with some more things that I intend to get done.

Well, I was at a friends the other day, I don’t know how we ended up on the subject of bonsai’s but we decided we would get some tree seeds and grow a bonsai from a seed. Though after google-ing and reading a good chunk of info, we read many encouraging statemets such as “don’t grow from seed, life’s too short” & “it may just drop dead one day”.
After which we decided to just take the easy way out and buy them already a few years old. After about 20 minutes of browsing I decided on two I liked, a 8yr old Ulmus & a 4-5yr old Sagarethia.
The last time I encountered a bonzai, it all ended badly, I had all the best intentions but it eventually perrished due to one thing and another. Not this time though, intend to keep the damn thing alive for a long time. So you are likly to see more updates on them in the future. Pictures to follow.

I have been meaning to start a blog for a while now, but just kept talking about setting one up. So thought it was about time I got my act together and started, as you could probably gather from the title, there’s nothing specific about my blog, it’ll just be about what ever crosses my mind at the time or things on my mind with the odd rant thrown in just for good measure.
